Mission Support
Marriage is a public declaration of LOVE and COMMITMENT to your partner

Marriage IN CHURCH has an added dimension - the assurance that God cares about your relationship and that his resources and strength are available to help you.  Including God in your marriage doesn't mean that you will avoid the usual ups and downs, but you will know that you can look to God for help and guidance and that his love will sustain you.  You will also have the support and encouragement of the Christian Church family, both here at St. Paul's, Blackheath and in the wider world.

        Please
        EITHER . . . Contact the vicar

CAN ANYONE BE MARRIED AT ST. PAUL'S CHURCH, BLACKHEATH ?

You are entitled to be married here at St. Paul's if either or both persons live within the parish boundaries.  You can check these boundaries by looking on the Map page on this website.

You are also entitled to be married here if you live ouside the boundaries AND are on the Electoral Roll of this parish.   You will however be expected to attend church services for six months before going on the roll.

In certain circumstances you can apply for a Special Licence - see the Church of England link at the top-right of this page

WHAT ARE THE LEGAL REQUIREMENTS ?

1.  You must have your BANNS read out in church on 3 Sundays during the 3 months prior to the wedding.   Banns are public announcement of your intention to marry and an opportunity for anyone to put forward any reason why the marriage cannot lawfully take place.
2. If you are under the age of 18 you must have parental consent to marry.
3. There are special guidelines on church marriage if you have been divorced.

HOW DO WE BOOK THE CHURCH ?

Come to church on any Wednesday evening between 7pm amd 8pm.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST ?

The legal fees are fixed centrally and will cost in the region of £300 to cover the publication of banns, certificate of banns, the marriage service and the marriage certificate.  These fees do not include such items as choir, organist, special lighting/heating, recording fees, special flower arrangements etc. - details are available on request.

CAN WE CHOOSE WHAT KIND OF SERVICE WE WANT ?

There are two forms of service at present available with either modern of traditional language.  Details of these services and other happenings (readings, singigng, CD music, prayers etc.)  that may take place during the service are available by discussion and agreement with the vicar.

WHICH HYMNS / SONGS / MUSIC MAY WE HAVE ?

Anything, by agreement with the vicar, but PLEASE ask for advice well before any Orders of Service are prepared.

CAN WE HAVE A VIDEO RECORDING ?

Yes - but permission MUST be sought any any small fee paid.

CAN WE EACH HAVE A RING ?

Yes - the wedding ring is a symbol of unending love and faithfulness.  It is a public display of commitment and it is entirely your decision to have one or two.
